October 2011 Newsletter

Oct 2011

Hello Chilli Fans!

We hope you've all had a great summer and are enjoying the current warm spell - long may the sunny days continue!

In this newsletter we've got some exciting announcements to do with new product launches & packaging, our new and improved website including a 10% discount offer across all of our products for this weekend (see below for details), some great new recipes and diary dates for upcoming tasting events we're doing.

New Products

We're really excited to announce that our product range is growing! We've added some awesome new chillies, a selection of authentic herbs & spices and a couple of recipe kit products. The new chillies are cascabel, pasilla and piquin. Cascabel are a relatively mild, flavourful chilli – smoky with a hint of liquorice and used to make sauces like adobo, pasilla again relatively mild but with a wonderful sweet fruity flavour a bit like prunes. Pasilla by the way are used in mole poblano, the spicy chocolate sauce synonymous with Mexico. Piquin pack a punch and are definitely the hot ones out of this trio! They're great for putting into soups and stews whole or crushing down as a condiment and have a deliciously rich flavour. You can read all about our expanded chilli range here: http://bit.ly/nItNhU

Our new authentic mexican herbs & spices selection is something we've been planning for a while and finally we managed to track down a top quality producer. Our herbs & spices are the real deal and go hand in hand with our chillies in many of the Mexican recipes on our website and beyond: Mexican oregano with it's wonderfully deep earthy and floral flavour – noticably different to it's European equivalent; Mexican cinnamon otherwise known as canela or true cinnamon is a much mellower contender than the cinnamon (cassia) you get in supermarkets; annatto powder, a spice from the Achiote tree - Bright orange it was originally used by the Mayans to make war paint – until someone tasted it and it's been used in cooking ever since; and epazote a herb alot of people haven't heard of outside of Mexico, has a herbaceous and citrussy flavour. We tried some in our shrimp soup recipe a couple of weeks ago and it complimented the Chipotle very well indeed!

You can read more about these in our herbs and spices section: http://bit.ly/qpnYpx

New Packaging

This may well be more exciting to us than anyone else but we thought it was worth a mention! All our new and existing products now come in our new packaging: Ultra high quality stand up pouches with tamper proof seals that will keep your chillies better protected and make them easier to store. Alot of our chillies are now available in 2 different pack sizes as well. For those of you out there that are always itching for a reason to use your smart phone we've added QR codes to the back of our packs so that you can scan a pack and get all the recipes using that product at the touch of a button instead of having to print the recipes out.

Tasting events

We've got some great tasting events coming over of the next few weeks. If you live nearby (or have friend who does) and want to see how good some of these recipes taste then pop in and say hi.

Saturday 15th October

56 Rosslyn Hill, Hampstead, London. www.hampsteadbutcher.com

I'll be cooking up some delicious tasters here at my favourite shop in North London. If you've not been to this place you really should check it out. Using the first class meat from their butchery counter I'm planning on making this a really special tasting event and if Guy will let me me use his kitchen I'll make up some flautas http://bit.ly/olA6vq. I'll also be serving my famous 3 chilli salsa http://bit.ly/pAyoK8

Saturday 29th October

Willows Farm Shop

Coursers Road, London Colney, St.Albans http//:www.willowsfarmshop.com

As it's Halloween weekend Sandra has asked me to prepare something themed. So, get ready to try some mexican style pumpkin soup – it's will be delicious and I'll be publishing the recipe nearer the time so you can make it at home! I'll also be using some meat from their onsite butchery to cook up other mexican classics and naturally will have a big bowl of my famous 3 chilli salsa for dipping throughout the day http://bit.ly/pAyoK8

Have a great October and speak to you next month!
